Do you have a creative, purposeful project you've always wanted to launch? Or maybe you've launched it already, but if feels like it's moving at a snail's pace?
If you answered yes to either of these questions, this blog post is for you! Simply getting started and building a strong foundation is the hardest part, so that's what we're going to do with these four steps.
Let's dive in....
1. Goal Setting
"Before we look at what's immediately in front of us, we need to know where we're going!"
Writing out and becoming clear about your goals will allow you to take the most direct next steps to reach them. Plus, it will motivate you, hold you accountable and help you see your progress.
Your goals should be SMART:
Specific - Think along the lines of who, what, when, where & why.
Measurable - Ask yourself how much & how many.
Attainable - Make sure you have, or set out to gain, the necessary skills to accomplish these goals.
Realistic - Are you willing and able to work for these goals?
Timely - Give the goals a deadline.
2. Define Your Tribe
“If you’re trying to be all things to all people, you’ll end up having zero impact on everyone.”
Next you'll want to define your tribe, or as some people say, target audience, raving fans, dream clients, etc. The key is to be specific!
In order to really connect with these people, you need to know them - not just generally, but deeply.
What are their needs, values, background, lifestyle, etc.?
Go to where they are (online & offline) and observe them to discover these characteristics about them.
3. Design Your Brand
"What you're selling is only as good as your brand says it is."
Next, it's time to design your brand -- which should have a lot of synchronicity with your tribe.
Your brand is what makes you and your product/skills stand out!
It's important to be clear about your point of view, expertise, values, look and tone. These are the characteristics that should shine through in everything from your social media to your website to your own personal style.
Truly owning and expressing your essence will attract your like-minded tribe.
4. Create Content
“Before your tribe is really invested in your brand, they need to 'know, like and trust' you.”
It's important to have a content creation plan. Why is this step so important? This is your biggest and best opportunity to interact with your tribe, show them your expertise and build your relationship with them.
The best way to add value through content is to choose a longer form post (videos, blogging or podcast) and your primary social media platform, the one you'll focus on most. This should be a platform your tribe is on and one you enjoy.
In this scenario, less is more. I'd rather have you win at one platform than be mediocre at all of them.
Keep in mind, posting good content that adds value on social media is only one part of the equation. The other part is interacting with your tribe -- the ones who know you already and the ones who have yet to learn about you.
