The topic of "how to be extraordinary" has come up in so many of my conversations lately, including with the successful and purpose-driven women I’ve been interviewing for my #Empowerista series. And I’ve heard the same unexpected conclusion (in different words) each time.
The secret to being extraordinary is: simply be extraordinary.
The biggest lie we tell ourselves is we will be extraordinary (happy, fulfilled, confident, impressive… etc.) once we have this title, or this life event or this amount of money.
It’s a big fat lie, Empowerista.
You’re extraordinary today. All you need to do is: accept that which you already are.
Our society puts so much value on fame, money and milestones that it really misses the point. Life isn't one size fits all. Wherever you are is exactly where you can be extraordinary.
It’s not to say you can’t or shouldn’t have bigger goals. Have them. But don’t wait to feel or act extraordinary until you meet them.
Because you are complete. You are enough. You have everything within you today to shine your light bright, whether that’s at a grocery store, in a class you’re taking or at your “ordinary” job.
This is what we are called to do. Let our light shine… today.
As Howard Thurman says:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
So what can you do today to shine a little brighter?! I encourage you to go do that!
